Money Making Secret #1 - I DID IT!

Did what? For the 25th time in 13 years, I've updated my database of 930 Radio Talk Shows Who Interview Guests By Telephone.

At 10:25 this morning, I completed this project which has been my A1 Priority for the past 7 weeks. Yes, it takes 7 weeks to call more than 1,000 radio stations to first verify the fact that the station still has a show or shows that interview guests by phone. Next to get the name of both the host and producer spelled correctly. Also to verify the mailing address and fax number.

As if that weren't enough, this time around, I started gathering email addresses and web site addresses.

WHEW! I feel good. AND 6 brand new clients were the recipients of this updated database. Which means they can start calling, or faxing, or mailing these shows this week ... to offer their services as guests.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I remember a note that W. Clement Stone gave me years ago ... His letterhead simply said: DO IT NOW! What a grand feeling to have a Major Project accomplished. Money Making Secret #2 - Would You Open These e-zines?

Jim's Top Tips Jane's Bi-Monthly e-zine

In the past 5 days I received TWO phone calls from subscribers asking the same question: "How did you go from 29 subscribers to 1,055 subscribers in just 37 weeks?"

After spending 15 minutes with each person, I said "Why don't I just write about it this week, and tell 1,067 people?"

Yes, 13 NEW subscribers signed up for my e-zine this week, and one said REMOVE, net 12.

Here are just TWO of the ideas I gave Jim and Jane (not their real names <G>).

#1 the title of your e-zine (or book, or speech, or ???) MUST be a GRABBER. MUST include a benefit MUST immediately tell the reader 'what it's about' MUST be memorable

A long time ago, Jim's Barber Shop said it ALL. Jane's Beauty Salon was enough.

In 2003 we have to capture the attention of our audience, or else the other 3,000+ advertising messages every day will capture them.

#2 Your e-zine MUST contain information that will help your subscribers: GROW HAIR MAKE MONEY LOSE WEIGHT IMPROVE THEIR LOVE LIFE

I'm saying these 'tongue in cheek' but more serious than not. I just came home from the grocery store. One of the JOYS of grocery shopping is standing in the check-out line and reading the headlines of: The National Enquirer 1,801.598 SOLD EVERY WEEK Cosmo 2,963,351 SOLD Every Month Redbook 2,380,410 SOLD Every Month Reader's Digest 15,565,779 SOLD Every Month

These periodicals must pay their headline writers BIG BUCKS, because every week shoppers sweep these off the shelves ================ I just gotta squeeze this in. Here I am, at home, 8:22 P.M., sitting in my bathrobe and asking: "How can I find the subscription figures for these four publications?" I tried the Internet, Google, THEN I REMEMBERED ...
