Money Making Secret #1 - Are We On Information Overload?

Newseum (Does this mean a Museum for News? Keep reading...)

This is stunning technology, only made possible by an organization with deep resources. If you want to know what the World's newspapers are saying today this is the place to go. You'll get 175 of today's front pages from 25 countries - arranged alphabetically. If you want it in PDF format - one click. Visit the newspaper's website? - one click. Invaluable. I'll visit this site every day. A superb resource. Free to use. They will ask for your email address. Found at http://www.tudogs.com/news.php

Simply astonishing that we've reached this point in technology. Truly 'one world.' ==================================================

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan

Money Making Secret #2 - Readability Statistics

Tip #1: "Reading Statistics: What You Don't Know Could Be Killing Your Advertising Results!"

Did you know that a clear 90% of the people in the U.S. read at a grade seven (age 12) level or lower?

Also, did you know that research shows reading from a computer screen is around 25% slower than reading from paper?

What should you conclude from these facts? Give up? Okay, it's this

You Must Write In Plain English... Your Writing Must Be Simple... And... It Must Be Clear!

That means short and simple words, sentences and paragraphs in your copy. Are there any hard and fast rules? Not really. I'll give you some guidelines, though.

As far as words, sentences and paragraphs go...don't use a ten-dollar word when a simple one will work just as well. Keep your sentences relatively short ... say, 14-17 or less words. And if you have longer ones, break them up with ellipsis ... or dashes&emdash;

As a general rule, paragraphs should not exceed 6 lines. However, I usually stay around 2 to 4. And it's a good idea to mix it up ... have some one sentence paragraphs...even one or two word paragraphs...

Like this.

Actually, one of the best ways to learn how to write clearly is ... study proven sales letters. Find the ones you know are winners ... that are easiest to read and model their layout/style. If you're not already collecting good sales letters, get started now. Get on the mailing lists of Agora Publishing, Phillips Publishing and Rodale Books. And, if you're really serious, buy at least one or two products from each of them. You'll get more good to great sales letters, magalogs, bookalogs, etc., than you can shake a stick at ... delivered right to your front door.

Here's another tip...

If you use Microsoft Word, you can test the readability of your ads and sales letters. Here's what you do: Click on the Tools button at the top of the screen. A menu will come up. In that menu click on Options. Then you'll see a Spelling & Grammar button ... click that. Then there's a check box at the bottom that says, "Show readability statistics" ... click that. Then when you spell check your document, you'll get a box that looks sort of like this...

Readability Statistics:

Counts___________ Words: 1105 Characters: 5821 Paragraphs: 136 Sentences: 94

Averages:_________ Sentences per Paragraph: 1.2 Words per Sentence: 6.5 Characters per Word: 4.4

Readability_______ Passive Sentences: 1% Flesch Reading Ease: 77.5 Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level: 4.0

Those are the readability statistics for this newsletter. Not bad. In general, you should aim for a grade level of 6 or lower. And a reading ease of 70 or higher.

Thanks to my friend Gary Halbert for this idea and these statistics. http://www.thegaryhalbertletter.com =================================================

Money Making Secret #3 &endash; $38 for one ticket, $49 for 10

I know this sounds almost ridiculous, but in 1976 I was selling tickets for the American Motivational Association events for $38 per person, second person half price.

In 1999 the Success Rallies, with Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins and 8-10 other speakers sold tickets for $69 for the full day.

This year (2003) the 'pitch' is Bring Your Entire Office for $49. Most offices are ordering 10 tickets for $49.

Results: They filled the Pepsi Center in Denver with 17,000 people with more than two weeks to go. And then booked the Coliseum in Denver, which holds another 8,000.

The current plan? After Speaker #1 is finished at the Pepsi Center they take this speaker by limo to the Coliseum to speak to the second group. Same with Speaker #2 etc.

I'm sure there's a REASON behind this marketing plan. Stay tuned. I expect to be there to see just how this comes about. I'll be reporting to you next issue.
