Money Making Secret #3 - How Do You Answer Your Phone?

What is the Most Effective and professional way to answer your phone? "Hello!" "This is Sally (or Charlie)! or are you interested in helping the caller ... regardless?

Many years ago my friend Jeff Royal (who died at age 86) heard me answer my phone with "This is Joe Sabah. May I help you?" He was kind and diplomatic enough to wait until I was off the phone when he asked: "Would like a better way to answer your phone AND get more business?" Of course i said "YES."

Jeff suggested I tailor my script to "Good Morning, this is Joe Sabah. HOW may I help you?"

Not a big change. But VERY big in the results it brought when he explained that by including Good Morning, or Good Afternoon ... you've conditioned your caller to the sound of your voice. And secondly by adding the word "HOW" with a rising inflection, your caller is conditioned to be ready for HELP, even if it means referring this person to another resource.

THAT, my friend, is what customer service is all about. HELPING PEOPLE! P.S. You may want to 'call your own office' to see how your staff is handling incoming calls. Do this on a regular basis. Trying different times of the day.
